How to create a custom product
Your entire team has access to the custom products in your Company database. Your custom products are not visible to other commonsku suppliers or distributors.
To add a custom product from a client form (presentation, estimate, sales order, or invoice):
- Click + Add > Product
- Select your company database
- Click + New Product
- Enter the required information, the supplier, product code, product name, product description, and image.
- Click+ Add More Details and + Add Pricing to include additional details (optional)
- Click Save
You cannot change a product's supplier once the product is created. Products default to the supplier's currency (set in the supplier page > details).
Required information
Each custom product requires a:
- Supplier - click the drop-down to select a supplier you've created an account with or click the icon to add a new supplier.
- Product Code - the supplier's product code.
- Product Name - the product's name (appears on client-facing forms).
- Product Description - the product's description (appears on client-facing forms).
- Image - click Upload Image and select Choose File to pull an image from your computer, or paste in the image's URL to the "From the web" field. You can upload additional images to the Product's Page.
commonsku Tip: You can enter a space in the required fields to trick the system into thinking you've entered text, which helps in cases when the product's name, description, or code isn't necessary.
Additional information
You can add additional information when you initially create a product, or edit existing items and add details to their Product Page.
Clicking to + Add More Details allows you to enter the:
- Product Webpage
- Additional information
- Packaging
- Imprint type
- Colors
- Sizes
The product's colors and sizes are client-facing, whereas the other details are for your internal reference.
Search your Company database
To search for a product from a client form (presentation, estimate, sales order, or invoice):
- Click + Add > Product
- Select your Company database
- Type a keyword(s) into the "Search term" field, select the "Supplier" drop-down, or enter net pricing
- Click Search
- Select the product(s) you'd like to add to your form; the product's background will turn blue once it's added to the form
To search for a product from a shop:
- In the Products tab, click + Add > Product
- Select your Company database
- Type a keyword(s) into the "Search term" field, select the "Supplier" drop-down, or enter net pricing
- Click Search
- Select the product(s) you'd like to add to your form; the product's background will turn blue once it's added to the shop
Edit an existing product
To edit an existing product:
- Head to the Connect tab > Products > Company Database
- Search for the product in your Company database
- Click on the product to open the Product Page
- Select Edit Product in the Product Page's top right corner
- Make changes to the Overview or Details tabs as needed
- Click Save Product
Product edits apply whenever the product is used moving forward. The edits won't change the product details in any existing projects or shops.

Can I delete products from the company database?
It is not possible to delete custom products since deleting them would affect existing projects and shops. Instead, you can remove the product from your general search by making it "inactive." To make a product inactive, click Make Product Inactive at the top of the Product Page.
How do I re-activate a de-activated product?
The trouble with deactivating a product is that it no longer appears in your Company database's product search. You'll need to know either the product's name or the form it was used on.
To locate the deactivated product:
- In a client-facing form, click to + Add Product
- Select the Previous Orders database
- Search for the product by
- entering its product name in the "Search term" field
- selecting the client it was presented to in the "Client" drop-down
- selecting the order it was used on the "Order" drop-down
- Click Search
- Click the product to add it to your current form, then exit the product search
- In the form, click to Edit the product
- In the Edit Item screen, click to View Product Page
- Click Reactivate product
Can I upload custom products in bulk?
You cannot bulk upload custom products into commonsku; each product must be entered manually.
