June 2021 - Client-Owned Inventory Shops

commonsku’s Company Shops can now carry client-owned inventory items! You can order, track, and sell inventoried products from any new or existing Company Shop.

Inventory shops

Company Shops allow you to order products to replenish your inventory and stock new items for your client to purchase from the shop. For a full overview, check out our "New Feature: Client Owned Inventory Shops" webinar here.

How to turn on inventory

To enable inventory:

  1. Navigate to your Company Shop > click the Settings tab.
  2. Scroll down to the Inventory section > click Enable Inventory.

From here, you can add a custom inventory program number, configure your low stock notifications, specify which warehouse will be housing the products, and choose the warehouse contact for your orders.

Before you can enable inventory, you will need to have permission to "Create/Modify/Delete Shops" and "Manage Inventory." User permissions can be adjusted through Admin > Permissions.

How to order inventory

To order new inventory for your shop:

  1. Navigate to the shop’s Inventory tab
  2. Click Actions > Order Inventory

Welcome to your internal inventory shop! From here, you can order products on behalf of your client and drop the stock into your company shop.

Once ordered, you can head back to the Inventory tab in your shop and click Edit next to the products you’ve ordered. From here, you can:

  • Set up low stock thresholds for notifications
  • Monitor which pieces are available, on order, or reserved
  • See all client costs associated with their ordered stock

How does the shop look to the client?

You have the option to allow the client to see whether or not a product is inventoried, but otherwise, the client’s shopping experience is the same as with any other commonsku Shop.

What happens when I order the inventory?

As with commonsku’s other shop types, all inventory orders are integrated with our order management system. Once the inventory has been ordered, it’s automatically converted into a project with a ready-to-go sales order. Just confirm the order details, create your supplier POs, and you’re on your way!

Tips & tricks

Replenish inventory as needed

Shoppers cannot order more inventory than what you have on file. Make sure you’ve added the correct stock to your shop or replenished the inventory as needed.

Set low stock notifications

You can set low stock notifications so that you/your teammates receive an email notification when items are running low. Make sure you’ve added the correct stock to your shop; otherwise, the client won’t be able to place an order for the product they need!
