Tag use cases: Practical Ways to use Tags in commonsku
Here are some examples of how you can use tags effectively in commonsku:- Clients: Use tags to note where or when you connected with a client
- For Example: Tag a client with the name of the event where you first met them or the date they became a client.
- If a client manages multiple accounts within commonsku (such as several Google accounts divided by department), tagging each account with a unique identifier like “Google” can make reporting and organization much easier.
- Tags can also be used to identify the types of events clients run or to indicate their industry.
- Projects: Tags can help you track the status and details of your projects.
- For example: If a project is canceled or not approved, tag it with the reason.
- You can also use tags to record the source of the project (web, phone, meeting, repeat business)
- Indicate whether samples or royalties are involved
- Classify by event type.
- Contacts: Tagging contacts helps differentiate their roles.
- For example, you can tag contacts as individual prospects or as owners to quickly identify and segment your lists.
FAQs
Why don’t all my tags appear in the tag dropdown?
You may notice that some tags you created in Settings → Tags do not appear in the tag dropdown on Clients, Contacts, or Orders. This is expected behavior.
The tag dropdown only shows tags that have already been used at least once in that specific area.
For example:
-
If a tag has been used on at least one Client, it will appear in the Client tag dropdown.
-
If a tag has been used on at least one Contact, it will appear in the Company/Contact tag dropdown.
-
If a tag has never been used yet, it will not appear in those dropdown lists.
This means that even though a tag exists in Settings → Tags, it won’t appear in the dropdown until it has been applied to a record in that context.
How do I make a tag appear in the dropdown?
To make a tag appear in a dropdown list, simply apply it once.
For example, to make a tag appear for Clients:
-
Open any Client (you can use a test client).
-
Find the Tags field.
-
Add the tag you want to use.
-
Save the record.
Once that tag has been used on a client, it will appear in the tag dropdown for all other clients as well.
You can follow the same process for Contacts.
If you want several tags to be available in the dropdown, you can add them all to one test client or contact. After that, those tags will appear in the dropdown for the rest of your records.
