How do I Manage eCommerce Outside of commonsku?

For any eCommerce needs that Shops cannot handle, you can solve those in three different ways. Learn more about the best ways to capture your online orders outside of commonsku Shops.

There are a few ways you can approach your eCommerce orders with commonsku and it all depends on the system you are using. The most important thing is to use a single accounting platform that will give you a modern tech stack to meet your needs but create a simplified accounting reconciliation.

Ultimately running your stores using our Shops feature will minimize rekeying and create a more streamlined workflow for you and your team. We recommend doing an audit of your stores to see if they can be moved to Shops. If you have stores that are fairly straightforward and do not require more complicated features like SSO logins, custom domains, ticketing, etc then Shops would work.

Create a “mirror presentation”

If the store that is running has defined products (something that is curated rather than an open catalog with hundreds of options) you can create what we call a “mirror presentation” in commonsku.

How to Create a Mirror Presentation:

  1. Create a presentation for the same client you have in the store
  2. Add all the products that you offer in the store to the presentation
  3. Fill out all the details for each item, size/color availability, pricing, artwork, etc.
  4. When an order is placed, instead of creating the order from scratch in commonsku, you can copy the item from your mirror presentation to a brand new order

commonsku Tip - The only piece that will need to be adjusted is the size/color selected in the store. You can then create purchase orders and voila, an almost instantaneous duplication.

Bypass commonsku

If you are using an online store platform that works with your accounting system, there is potential for you to bypass commonsku for store orders. Many online store platforms connect with accounting platforms like QBO and Netsuite for direct integration.

If the creation and the management of orders are possible with your current online store solution, you should look into connecting that directly with your accounting system. Being able to export out transactional data as a CSV file would also work for companies who are using QBO, Quickbooks Desktop, or Netsuite as their financial system.

Manually rekey orders

This solution is pretty basic. If the store you are offering is essentially a search engine, you would need to manually create a new order for each store order. There are no shortcuts for this one as the product and logo can vary each time.

Our goal is to help you create a seamless process and use one accounting platform. If you have any questions, our Support Team is here to help.
